” Begin With The End In Mind”Stephen Covey
In a previous article, we discussed the importance of having a very strong “Why” behind all your actions.
Recently, I received many questions on how to make sure that you are on the right track.
Where Is The Track?
I know it might sound obvious(or even stupid), but you have to make sure that you have track first before asking is right or wrong.
By now, we have to set three goals. One short term goal, second is midterm, and finally is a long term goal.
Characteristics of the goals
The Characteristics of those goals will be different from your new year resolutions that you have never fulfilled.
Clear & Specific
First thing, it should be very clear and specific. I to lose some weight, do some exercises, and follow a healthy diet is not a goal.
I want to lose 10 kgs in the next three months, I will walk for 15 mins a day, and 50% of my diet will be vegetables and fruits, that is more specific.
I believe by now; you realized why your new years’ resolutions never happened.
Bigger than you
The second characteristic is that your goals should be more significant than you; I know many people your goal should be something you can do. I am saying exactly the opposite; your goal should scare and excite you at the same time you should feel there is a challenge. It should be something that pushes you out of your comfort zone.
You can not set a goal and say I will eat junk food for the next month! There is no challenge here.
If it excites you and scares you at the same time, it might be a good thing to try.Unknown
Now, after we set that we need to make sure that any action will do help you to achieve those goal, how can you do that?
By now you should have 3 goals written, and on another paper, you would write all the activities that you are doing during the day., and ask a straightforward question, “Is that something will help me to achieve your goals?”
If the answer is yes BINGO , do it. If the answer is No, you shouldn’t do it
The Mental Battle.
Now your mind will start to come with all sort of actions that will stop you from achieving your goals and say I cannot stop doing this. If that you, please go back to Step One, your “WHY.”
If your why doesn’t motivate you and drive your actions , you are on the wrong track.
99% of you will like the idea, but will never do it. That’s why 1% of the people achieve their goals because they know it, they are driven to make it, and they are committed.
To keep moving on the right track, you have to make sure that you are reading your goals every day at least twice and make sure all your actions are helping you to achieve your goals.
My question is, “Are you willing to join the 1%.”
